Irish Retail Sales Drop 0.5% MoM in October
Ireland's retail sales went down 0.5 percent from a month earlier in October 2019, following a downwardly revised 3.9 percent increase in September. It was the first drop in retail activity since July as receipts at fuel stations declined by 5.2 percent (+7.4 percent in October) and other sales category dropped by 9.3 percent (+1.6 percent in October). Meanwhile, the sectors with the largest monthly gains were pharmaceuticals, medical & cosmetic articles (8.1 percent vs 3.2 percent) and clothing, footwear & textiles (3 percent vs -2.2 percent). Year-on-year, retail sales rose 3 percent, after a downwardly revised 3.8 percent increase in the previous month.

Irish Retail Sales Rise Solidly for 2nd Month
Ireland's retail trade jumped 4.3 percent from a month earlier in September 2019, following a revised 5.7 percent climb in August, boosted by sales of hardware, paints and glass (8.8 percent vs -6.8 percent) and vehicles (8.4 percent vs 13 percent). Meanwhile, the sectors with the largest monthly decreases were department stores (-2.2 percent vs -0.3 percent) and clothing, footwear and textiles (-2.2 percent vs 2.3 percent).

Irish Retail Sales Rebound in August
Ireland's retail sales jumped 5.7 percent from the previous month in August 2019, reversing a revised 4.4 percent slump in July, mainly boosted by sales at motor trades (12.0 percent vs -12.9 percent) and bars (10.6 percent vs -8.1 percent). By contrast, the sectors with the largest monthly decreases were fuel (-4.4 percent vs 2.3 percent) and pharmaceuticals, medical & cosmetic articles (-3.3 percent vs 5.2 percent).

Irish Retail Sales Fall the Most in 4 Years
Ireland's retail trade plunged 4.3 percent from a month earlier in July 2019, the most since April 2015, following a downwardly revised 0.7 percent growth in June. The sectors with the largest monthly decreases were motor trades (-13 percent vs 1.5 percent in June) and other retail sales (-11.5 percent vs 1.2 percent), while the biggest gains were seen in non-specialised stores (5.7 percent vs -1.4 percent) and pharmaceuticals, medical & cosmetic articles (4.7 percent vs -1.8 percent).

Irish Retail Sales Rebound in June
Ireland's retail trade increased 1.2 percent from a month earlier in June 2019, recovering from a 2.9 percent decline in May, boosted by sales of furniture & lighting (4.9 percent vs 2.9 percent) and motor trades (4 percent vs -1.7 percent). On the other hand, the sectors with the largest decreases were clothing, footwear & textiles (-2.9 percent vs -4.8 percent) and books, newspapers & stationery (-2.3 percent vs -2.5 percent). Year-on-year, retail trade growth eased to 0.1 percent in June from 0.5 percent in the previous month.

Irish Retail Sales Fall in May
Ireland's retail trade slumped 2.4 percent from the previous month in May 2019, reversing an upwardly revised 2.6 percent increase in April, led by lower sales of food, beverages & tobacco (-5.3 percent) and fuel (-5.1 percent). On the other hand, the sectors with the largest increases were bars (4.5 percent) and electrical goods (2.7 percent). Year-on-year, retail trade growth slowed sharply to 1.1 percent in May from 4.5 percent in April.
